History of this model:

The original Typhoon was designed in 1929 by George CROUCH.
Among his other famous designs are the Baby Bootlegger and the Teaser which in 1925 competed against the fastest train of the time, the Twentieth Century, which ran from Albany to New York. The Teaser covered the distance in 2 hours and 40 minutes against more than 3 hours for the Twentieth.

The origin of the TYPHOON is due to Edsel Ford, a raceboat enthusiast. Seeing the famous Teaser in action, he wanted a new boat as fast for his own personal use. He contacted the yard that had built the Teaser and ordered an exact copy, calling it TYPHOON.

Like a wild stallion, TYPHOON was born to run. It could seat up to eight adults in three separate cabins, but without comfort and safety. Edsel Ford never used it as a pure racer, however, but as a simple speedboat on the outskirts between the Ford factory and his home in Lake St Claire.

In 1941, Ford sold it to Howard Hughes who continued to operate it during the war years, but sold it after the war. The TYPHOON then went through a series of owners in the following years, ending up in Kentucky.
In the late 1960's, at the Bryants Navy in Washington, a boat coupled next to the TYPHOON caught fire, a fire that got out of hand and quickly engulfed the TYPHOON to its total loss.
